Its purpose is to keep the entire broadcast chain active and facilitate adjustment in the different elements that make it up, especially in television receivers. Its use has been taking place since the first television broadcasts. The first adjustment cards were physical cards pointed at by a television camera.

Currently, various types of adjustment chart generators are used that provide an image that contains the different elements intended for specific adjustments. There were even video game cartridges that generated these images for use in home receivers.

An adjustment chart must contain a series of elements that allow immediate and rapid inspection of the quality of the television signal when observed on a monitoring bridge composed of an image monitor, a waveform monitor and a vectoscope.
