Honeycomb panels are created thanks to the wax produced by worker bees with their wax glands. Depending on the type of bee and its need, each cell has a different size. The average size is 6 cm.

The queen bees are responsible for laying eggs for the birth of members of the hive; unfertilized eggs for the birth of drone bees and fertilized eggs for the birth of worker bees.

Drone bees are responsible for mating with the queen bees and also bringing pollen to the hive as food for the rest of the bees.

Worker bees perform different functions within the honeycomb. They can create wax to build the panels, clean the hive, generate royal jelly, store brought food, dehydrate nectar and protect the hive.

There are solitary bees that do not live in joint hives. These bees do not produce wax or honey.
