Le Chat Noir - in Spanish, The Black Cat - was a 19th century cabaret in the bohemian neighborhood of Montmartre , in Paris . It was inaugurated on November 18, 1881 on Boulevard Rouchechouart by the artist Rodolphe Salis , and closed in 1897 , to the disappointment of Picasso and others who sought it when they went to the World's Fair in Paris (1900).
