The aeronautical cockade, or cucarda, is used as a badge to indicate nationality on airplanes or aircraft that, due to the speed they reach, cannot fly flags in their traditional form. Most of these national insignia follow the form of the heraldic roel, but there are exceptions, such as the German Luftwaffe which uses a cross, or the Estonian Õhuvägi, which uses a triangle.
