The names "frog" and "toad" originally referred to the two types of anurans that appear in the Iberian Peninsula: typical frogs (those of the genus Rana), and typical toads (those of the genus Bufo); but currently they are used for other groups in an indiscriminate and arbitrary way. "Frog" usually refers to the most graceful species, with moist and smooth skin, good jumpers, and climbing or aquatic habits. "Toad" refers to the species with drier and rougher skin, more robust, walking, less agile and that usually live in humid soil digging galleries. Therefore, this distinction between frogs and toads is not a discrimination that has taxonomic validity.
